Home Alive - Print

from $30.00

This is a high quality print of an original painting, professionally printed with pigmented inks on Somerset Velvet rag paper.

The original painting is titled "Home Alive - Self Defense for All" and is part of my series of mixed-media paintings, "The Seattle I Remember." Each painting in this series depicts a beloved old Seattle establishment.

Home Alive existed in several different locations; this painting depicts the sign outside its location at 1415 10th Ave. E. Home Alive was a non-profit organization that offered sliding-scale self defense and boundary setting classes from 1993-2010. I was a Home Alive instructor from 2002 - 2020ish and this work is very important to me. For information about Home Alive and to access free self-defense and boundary-setting curriculum, please visit www.teachhomealive.org.

I created the original painting in 2017 using beeswax, oil paint, graphite, and salvaged materials: old maps, pieces of antique mail, and other found and salvaged collage elements from my very cherished personal collection.

The original painting is was purchased by the City of Seattle in 2018 as part of the Office of Arts & Culture’s Seattle Public Utilities Fresh Perspectives Portable Artwork Purchase.
