About Janet

I am a teaching artist in Seattle, WA—born here, stayed here, still here. I mostly work with mixed-media painting, layering together beeswax, graphite, oil paint, and salvaged materials such as old maps, antique sheet music, worn sewing patterns, handwritten memories, and other salvaged remnants of my experiences moving through our wild, appalling, and beautiful world. I also work with printmaking, watercolors, ink, and more.

My artwork is greatly inspired by the social justice movements that I have connected with, witnessed, and learned from over the years: folks that work together to generate hope and resiliency, create safer ways to live and take care of each other, revolutionize love, family, and home, and hold transformative visions of new ways to live in the face of violence and oppression.

I am so grateful to my friends, family, students, and amazing community of creative & loving souls who have lifted me up and helped keep me afloat in millions of ways over the years. Thank you.
