"Harry's Grocery" is part of my series of mixed-media paintings, "The Seattle I Remember." Each painting in this series depicts a beloved old Seattle gathering spot.
Harry's Grocery was on the block of East Pine Street bordered by Summit and Belmont Avenues on Capitol Hill. The whole block, which also included Kincora Pub, Manray, Cha Cha Lounge, and Bimbo's Bitchin' Burrito Kitchen, was torn down for a big condo development in 2006.
I created this original piece in 2016. It started with a photo I took in 2006 when the block was being prepared to be razed. Then I created a photo transfer on an old Seattle map and mounted it onto a wood panel.
The painting is 9" wide x 12" tall, on a wooden panel with a wire across the back for easy hanging. The sides of the painting are exposed wood, lightly finished with linseed oil. It is signed, titled, and dated by me on the back.
