"Cafe Septieme" is part of my series of mixed-media paintings, "The Seattle I Remember." Each painting in this series depicts a beloved old Seattle gathering spot.
Cafe Septime opened in Belltown in 1986 and moved to Capitol Hill in 1994. Known for serving coffee in giant bowls, displaying local art, and functioning as a gathering place for artists, writers, and actors, it became a beloved community hub. It closed in 2009.
I created this original painting in 2025 with beeswax, oil paint, graphite, and salvaged materials: old maps, antique book pages, and other found collage elements.
The painting has a luminous quality and rich texture, as you can see layers of collage materials beneath many coats of delicious-smelling beeswax.
The painting is 10" wide x 8" tall, on a wooden panel with a wire across the back for easy hanging. The sides of the painting are exposed wood, lightly finished with linseed oil. It is signed, titled, and dated by me on the back.
