Bailey Coy Books - Print
This is a fine art print of an original painting titled "Bailey Coy Books." It is part of my series of mixed-media paintings, "The Seattle I Remember." Each painting in this series depicts a beloved old Seattle establishment. Bailey-Coy Books was a small, very loved LGBTQ+ affirming bookstore on Broadway from 1982 to 2009. It played a large role in creating queer-affirming culture in Seattle, and I will always remember it as a place I spent much time in as a young person. Independent bookstores are important community hubs, offering spaces for folks to meet, browse, learn, and so much more.
I created the original painting in 2017 with beeswax, oil paint, graphite, and salvaged materials: old maps, pieces of antique mail, and other found and salvaged collage elements. The original painting was sold to the City of Seattle in 2020 and is part of their Portable Works Collection.
This print is a high-quality Giclee reproduction, professionally printed with pigmented inks on Somerset Velvet rag paper, which has a pleasing, matte finish.
