beneath every building lies a history of struggle and resiliency
I created this original painting, titled "beneath every building lies a history of struggle and resiliency," in 2008 using encaustic medium  (beeswax), oil paint, graphite, and salvaged materials: old maps, sheet  music, ticket stubs, remnants of my Spanish lessons, stamps, and  photocopy transfers of photographs I took in Mexico and Guatemala.
This  piece was inspired by time I spent in Mexico and Guatemala, studying  Spanish and learning about indigenous struggles for justice &  autonomy in their communities.  It is filled with personal collage  elements and is very dear to me.
